Saw filers and fitters work in lumber mills and processing plants. They repair, set, and sharpen band saws, circular saws, chain saws, hand saws, and other types of saw blades. They also maintain and adjust saw-sharpening equipment. Saw filers and fitters must be mechanically inclined, have computer skills, and be able to handle physical work.
Training Hours: Complete 5,280 hours of on-the-job training and 720 hours of in-class training for this apprenticeship.
Blacksmiths forge, weld, rivet, and repair metal parts. Their work is used in farm machinery and industrial and domestic equipment. They also forge custom pieces, such as ornamental railings, gates, furniture, and horseshoes.
